Erath County Court Docket Searches
Erath County's Erath Court Records and eDiscovery portal is the place to begin a case lookup. Two routes sit inside it. Search Hearings covers upcoming settings. Smart Search handles case records. Names alone can mislead you. One person's matters may sit with the District Clerk, the County Clerk, a Justice of the Peace, or either of the two city courts. Pull together the cause number, party name, likely court, case type, and a helpful date range, then trace the court record through the channel that fits.
- Choose the court level that hears the case type.
- Open the local portal and select the right location and civil or criminal hearing type.
- Search by case number when known, or use the party, business, attorney, judge, or courtroom option that fits.
- Read the setting and event data, then check whether a filed document is separately available.
- Confirm a changed date or request a certified copy from the responsible clerk.
A blank screen proves very little. It does not mean no Erath County court docket exists; the statewide system and a call to the correct clerk often reach older, restricted, precinct, or municipal matters.
Choose the Erath Court First
Start with jurisdiction. It filters faster than anything else. The 266th Judicial District Court holds felonies plus district civil and family cases. County misdemeanors and certain county civil matters run through the County Court at Law and the County Clerk. Probate has its own County Clerk channel. Justice Courts keep small civil, eviction, and fine-only criminal or traffic dockets, while Stephenville and Dublin maintain separate municipal records for their own Class C and ordinance cases.
Quick answer: Identify the issuing court or the court printed on a notice before searching a name. That one step prevents many false “no record” results.
Federal matters run on a separate track. Erath County sits in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, Fort Worth Division. That court's filings live in PACER. The Eleventh Court of Appeals in Eastland takes appeals from the local trial courts, so it holds no original Erath County docket.
Court Dockets: What They Show
An Erath County court docket is a running timeline. It summarizes activity, not the full file. Exact labels change with each court and system, but the same core fields help a reader follow nearly any matter.
| Case or cause number | The court-assigned identifier used to retrieve the case. |
|---|---|
| Case style and parties | The caption and procedural roles, subject to access limits. |
| Filings and orders | Dated entries for petitions, charges, motions, notices, and rulings. |
| Hearing settings | Date, time, courtroom or remote mode, judge, and setting type when published. |
| Status | The current stage, which can include pending, reset, dismissed, or disposed. |
| Disposition | The recorded outcome, not merely a scheduled event. |
A line reading “Judgment Signed” records an event. It does not reproduce the judgment itself. When the exact terms matter, ask the clerk for the underlying paper, and remember that a certified copy is a separate product carrying the clerk's authentication.
Erath Search Hearings Fields
Start with the Search Hearings interface. It requires a location and a hearing type. Search Types cover case number, party name, business name, attorney name or bar number, judicial officer, and courtroom. Name mode offers first, middle, and last names plus a “Sounds Like” choice, and date-from and date-to fields narrow the window.
| Portal control | Use | Local detail |
|---|---|---|
| Location | Limits the court site | Required before search |
| Hearing type | Separates civil and criminal settings | Required in the blank form |
| Search type | Selects name, number, officer, or room | Changes the criteria shown |
| Courtroom | Finds a place or hearing mode | Includes Justice Center, Dublin Annex, phone, virtual, jail, plea, and Zoom labels |
| Date range | Limits scheduled settings | Use both fields when possible |
The portal needs JavaScript and cookies. It also displays a short session-expiration notice, and Smart Search limits certain access methods, so its unlisted fields should not be guessed.

Erath County Courts and Their Dockets
Each Erath County court keeps its own records. The District Clerk holds district civil, criminal, and family papers. The County Clerk covers county misdemeanor, county civil and appeal, probate, and Justice Court record functions, and city clerks handle the municipal cases. This routing table separates the chief channels.
| Court | Docket covers | Where to search |
|---|---|---|
| 266th Judicial District Court | Felony, district civil, and family matters | Odyssey, re:SearchTX, District Clerk |
| County Court at Law | County misdemeanors and assigned county matters | County portal and County Clerk divisions |
| Constitutional County Court | Probate and county functions | County Clerk probate office |
| Justice Courts | Small claims, debt, eviction, and fine-only cases | Correct precinct court and weekly public docket |
| Municipal Courts | City traffic, ordinance, and Class C matters | Stephenville or Dublin city portal |
Courts share the Justice Center, but their registers do not merge. The right custodian turns on court and case type, never the building alone.
Local Erath Docket Terms
Several Erath setting labels look like outcomes. They really describe process, not the end of a case.
- Pre-Trial Docket
- A Justice Court setting to discuss the case with the prosecutor, enter a plea, or seek a reset.
- TBC
- Trial Before Court, meaning trial to a judge rather than a jury.
- Docket call
- A session for calling cases and announcing readiness; County Court rules also treat criminal docket call as pretrial.
- Reset
- A move to another setting date. It is not a dismissal or disposition.
- DWOP
- Dismissal for want of prosecution when a civil matter is not pursued under the applicable rule.
Other entries appear often: arraignment, plea, motion, order, judgment, and return of service. Read each event with court, date, setting, and status. A proposed plea or reset can leave a jury setting standing until the court approves it.
Court Dates and Settings in Erath County
Where will a setting show up? The case register, Search Hearings, a docket posted for one court, or a scheduling office can all carry it. The state child-protection calendar is specialized, not universal. Justice Courts publish a weekly public docket. A Plea Deadline Docket is linked for the County Court at Law. Confirmation runs through the 266th court administrator or the County Court at Law coordinator.
Search results may label a room or a mode. Labels include Donald R. Jones Justice Center, Dublin Annex, Erath County Court House, Phone Hearing, Virtual, Jail, Plea, or Zoom Hearing. A listed date is not a result, though. Resets and continuances can change any setting. So follow the full Erath County court schedule process and confirm with the court before you appear.
Erath Settings Have Local Deadlines
Local rules make 266th Judicial District Court scheduling more than a date lookup. A civil trial-setting request goes to the court administrator. It must also be served on the other side and the District Clerk. Conflict notices are due within ten days. Miss that, and the setting becomes firm. A reset requires court consent through the stated procedure.
Criminal scheduling has its own markers. Preliminary matters generally must be filed at least seven days before pretrial. That rule bends only for good cause. A plea-bargain or reset agreement needs approval by 5 p.m. Thursday before jury week, or the case stays on the jury docket. That timing explains something. An expected change may not yet appear in an Erath County court docket.
Local rules also set targets for civil jury and nonjury cases. Those targets are not promises of a personal court date. The controlling source remains the current court order and official register.
Docket Access Under Texas Law
Not every Erath County record opens under the same rule. Texas law sorts records into categories. A court case record, a judicial administrative record, and a general county record are three separate ones. The Texas Public Information Act does not override the clerk’s court-file process. Access to judiciary records instead rests on court rules, other law, and common law.
Key rules:
Texas Rule 12 governs access to judicial records other than court case records.
Government Code Chapter 552 provides the Public Information Act framework and leaves judiciary access to court rules and other law.
Texas Rule of Civil Procedure 76a supplies the process for sealing eligible civil court records.
Family Code Chapter 58 restricts access to juvenile records.
Some things stay out of view. Sealed filings, juvenile information, protected identifiers, and certain family details may not display on an Erath County docket search. Still, a missing image does not prove the whole case is sealed. A general county request form can work for administrative records, but it is no substitute for asking the clerk directly for a court document.
When an Erath Result Is Missing
Start with the basics when an Erath result does not appear. Check the Erath court level, the name spelling, the date range, and the search mode. Then try the Erath cause number and court name. An old Erath case may have thin electronic coverage. A new Erath filing may not be indexed yet. Erath municipal and Erath JP matters also sit outside the channel you may have searched first.
Use re:SearchTX as a statewide second layer for an Erath docket search. It searches by party or case number with Erath court and category filters. Coverage and document access vary. If both systems miss the item, make a call. Contact the Erath District Clerk, the Erath County Clerk division, the Erath precinct JP, or the Erath municipal court that holds it.
Describe the outcome carefully. Say the item was “not located in the searched Erath public interface,” not that “no Erath record exists.” The responsible Erath clerk can tell you whether a public copy exists. The clerk can also explain whether redaction applies, or whether an order or law restricts access.
How the Clerk Keeps Docket Records
Wanda Greer, the Erath County District Clerk, keeps the register and papers for the 266th Judicial District Court. Her office indexes pleadings, instruments, and other district records. Staff can explain access and copy procedure. They cannot give legal advice. Civil and family filings usually move through eFileTexas into the Odyssey and statewide repository workflow.
The official District Clerk page shows the office’s own access and filing details:

Two Erath Clerks, Several Counters
Do not confuse the two clerks. Gwinda Jones and the County Clerk staff keep county-level court and Justice Court records. The main office at Annex III serves the broader office, while misdemeanor and civil court records have separate Justice Center counters and phone lines. Probate runs through Annex III.
Call 254-965-1407 for county misdemeanor records. County civil records use 254-965-1428, and probate routing shares that number even though the service points differ. The main County Clerk office keeps hours of Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. A precise request should name the court, the cause number, the document, and whether you want a plain or certified copy.
This division matters more than it sounds. “Call the clerk” can send an Erath County docket request to an office that does not hold it. The clerk can identify the record process but cannot interpret a docket entry for you.
Erath Docket, Document, or Copy
Three different products answer three different questions. The docket shows chronology and settings. A filed document shows the actual wording of a petition, motion, order, judgment, or citation. A certified copy adds the clerk’s authentication for an official use.
| Product | Best use | Request path |
|---|---|---|
| Docket or register | Track events and dates | Portal or responsible clerk |
| Filed document | Read the actual text | Clerk document request |
| Certified copy | Obtain clerk authentication | Name the exact paper and confirm fee |
Know what you are buying before you order. An official County Clerk fee PDF lists certified papers at $5 plus $1 per page. Noncertified paper runs $1 per page, and a $5 search applies when no cause number is supplied. The PDF carries a land records title. So confirm a listed charge applies to the court record you want. The District Clerk sets its own copy fees; ask that office for the current amounts.
Erath Courthouse Records Then and Now
Erath County’s own past-and-present account says the original courthouse plans are lost. So photographs, Commissioners Court minutes, the building, and an 1892 description piece the story together. The old second-floor courtroom had a sloped spectator floor and a gallery. Today’s court pages describe a different scene. Electronic displays, a document camera, microphones, and camera technology now fill the 266th courtroom.
The county courthouse history tells that story in full:

The contrast traces how public viewing shifted from paper and a physical courtroom to electronic registers. The clerk’s original record stayed authoritative throughout. Older Erath County material may still demand more than an online name search.
City-by-City Court Dockets in Erath County
Erath County has two incorporated cities with their own municipal court channels. Stephenville and Dublin each offer a city portal for citations and violations. Those Erath city records stand apart from the county system. Erath Justice Court, Erath County Clerk, and Erath District Clerk dockets are separate channels. Check the court printed on an Erath citation. That court controls where the docket search begins.
Stephenville Court Records
2020 Census population 20,897. This Erath municipal court handles city Class C, traffic, and ordinance matters.
Dublin Court Records
2020 Census population 3,359. This Erath city court offers a separate “Search Court Violations” path.
Where a case sits in Erath County depends on which court took it. A traffic ticket written near Dublin often lands in Erath JP Precinct 2 at the Dublin Annex. A Stephenville matter that outgrows municipal jurisdiction moves up to a county or district court. City lines alone tell you nothing. Dublin is the only incorporated city besides Stephenville with its own court channel mentioned here, so the county list stays short.
Each Erath County clerk answers a different question. A municipal clerk handles city citations. A justice clerk handles precinct cases. The Erath County Clerk keeps county misdemeanors, civil filings, probate files, and Justice Court records. The Erath District Clerk holds district felonies, civil suits, and family matters. Two online tools help too. Erath Odyssey gives a starting point, and Erath Search Hearings shows setting data. Neither tool decides who owns the original docket. That stays with the clerk.
The same routing rule works for copies. Ask the city court for a municipal document. Ask the precinct court for a JP document. County-level papers come from the Erath County Clerk, and district papers from the Erath District Clerk. Name the court, the cause number, the document type, and whether you need it certified. That detail lets the clerk pull the filed paper, not just the docket entry.
Hearings stay with the court that set them. Confirm city settings with the municipal court. Confirm JP settings with the precinct. County Court at Law settings go through the coordinator or the Erath County Clerk, while 266th District settings belong with the court administrator or the Erath District Clerk. Working court by court beats treating every result as one combined Erath County calendar.
Map and Directions to the Donald R. Jones Justice Center
266th Judicial District Court civil, criminal, and family case files are kept by the District Clerk at the Donald R. Jones Justice Center, 298 S Graham, in Stephenville. The County Clerk's county-criminal and county-civil counters also operate from this building, while the County Clerk's main office and probate records sit at Annex III. Confirm the specific counter before a trip if the matter is county-level rather than district.
